AUWU announces mass-membership and calls all hands on deck!
The doors are open, let’s mobilise and take the fight up to this awful government.
There has never been a more urgent time for unemployed workers to mobilise and get organised against our brutal welfare system. We’ve seen this new government refuse to raise the starvation rate of welfare payments, and commit to keeping draconian ‘mutual’ obligations so they can line the pockets of their poverty profiteer donors.
New AUWU Organising Platform
We are calling all supporters to join us on our Discord organising platform tonight (05/10/22) at 6:30 PM AEDT for a briefing on our upcoming day of protest on the 17th of October.
At the protest we will demand that welfare payments are lifted above the Henderson poverty line, that everyone who needs a payment can get one, and that ‘mutual’ obligations be immediately abolished.
Membership Reforms
We are delighted to announce that a recent AUWU Special General Meeting on the 18th of September saw the passing of significant structural reforms to safely open up our Union to mass-membership and to support mass-mobilisation.

There has long been a frustrating tension between our legally-binding Union Constitution and community expectation. We are so grateful for the community’s continued support over the years. Unfortunately until now, applying for legally recognised Union membership was an onerous process that was difficult to proactively make available. The Union was also not appropriately equipped to support an active mass membership.
When we were elected to our term of office nearly one year ago, our primary mission was to closely align the functioning of the Union with the community trust and expectation we are privileged to have earned from the hard work of numerous volunteers over the last 8 years.
The reforms we passed were the culmination of nearly a year of focussed effort on governance and structural reform to amend our Constitution to support mass membership, and to adopt policies and procedures which would safely support mass mobilisation.
The fastest way to get involved with the Union’s activities is by joining our Discord and we look forward to seeing you there and joining our new and improved fighting AUWU!
In solidarity,
