Rebekha Sharkie and principled Coalition MPs: vote NO on cashless welfare
The potential to prevent the harm caused by the Cashless Debit Card is in your hands
Below is the statement we drafted after Senator Rex Patrick’s speech tonight on the bill to continue the Cashless Debit Card.
Stirling Griff’s failure to appear in the senate to represent his constituents in South Australia is the reason we cannot issue this statement. It is the reason tens of thousands of people who had the hope of escaping this heinous program went to bed devastated.
But there is one opportunity for Rebekha Sharkie, who claimed to have rejected this bill on principle, to rectify Centre Alliance’s abhorrent actions today.
We call upon Rebekha Sharkie to VOTE NO when the cashless welfare bill returns to the lower house.
We call upon the principled Coalition MPs who we know have grave concerns about the potential effects of income management in their communities – Bridget Archer, Russell Broadbent and Warren Entsch – to VOTE NO when the cashless welfare bill returns to the lower house.
We will be watching and so will the rest of the country. And we do have the power to win – whether it’s today, or at the next election, is your choice.
