Welfare recipients rally to Raise the Rate
A Labor government hasn't raised the unemployment benefit since 1994. Albanese owes it to the people who elected him to change that.
Today, welfare recipients will gather outside Anthony Albanese’s electorate office in Marrickville to demand an immediate increase of all welfare payments to the Henderson Poverty Line.
People on the JobSeeker Payment, Youth Allowance, the Disability Support Pension, and a range of working-age payments, will let Albanese know the scale of harm his government is causing them, in refusing to raise their entitlements.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve heard a lot of talk about the rate of payments from a range of politicians, academics, and economists – as per usual, the voices of those actually on these payments have been sidelined.
Today, that all changes. Today, welfare recipients will make their voices loud. It’s up to the government, the media, and the community to listen.
